A magnificent and high quality pair of French 19th century ormolu bronze candelabra after Clodion, raised by a circular rouge Griotte marble pedestal on gilt feet, with 6 lights each. Each marble base with a gilt intricately chased decoration and 3 rosaces. Above the bases, are the two delightful and richly chased bronze putti standing on a rocaille. Their nudity is covered by vine leaves. Both hold a reed in one ot their hands.
One of the putti is an allegory to Bacchanalia evident from the grape bunches in his hair and a jar of wine wine at his feet. A tambourine and a draped fur are hanging on his back.
The other one is probably also an allegory to Bacchanalia considering the vine leaves in his hair, but no grapes, and the wineskin at his feet. A draped fur is also hanging from his back.
They are holding a stem adorned with acanthus leaves displaying rich attention to detail and wonderful texture that leads to a cup finely decorated with chiselled foliage from which the branches of 5 fires and the central stem crowned by a flame start. Branches are partly twisted and partly decorated with acanthus leaves. Each of the arms lead up to elegant fluted candle cups with berried bobèches. The candelabra are ready to be mounted in lamps and are shipped disassembled.
