"Portrait d'une chaumière". Oil on canvas signed by Marie Collart (1842-1911). Cottage between the trees with woman and child, cows and chickens. Beautiful 19th century wood and stucco frame.
Marie Henrotin Collart came from a progressive bourgeois family who befriended with Victor Hugo and Charles Baudelaire. She loved go out and enjoy the countryside. During the summer months she often spent time in Tervueren where she met a lot of young 'plein-airistes', known as the painters of the School of Tervueren. Very quickly her talent was noticedand she exhibited for the first time in 1866 and received a gold medal at the Salon de Paris in 1870.

Period: 2d half of 19th century.

Conditions: Very good. Painting in very good conditions. Some little parts of the stucco of the frame are missing and it needs some little restauration.
